Puppy Love

On the first day of summer, I took my two dogs for a neighborhood walk. Becoming hot, I sat to rest in a shady spot on the grass. My dogs sat at the exact same time—not near me, but on me. I was immobilized as my 110 lb oversized collie sat on my lap, her thick fur coat like an electric blanket. But as I went to push her off, she stuck her long pointy nose under my armpit and held it there. The discomfort was forgotten and I knew that this was love in its purest form. And in turn I loved her too much to remove her. We must have made a comedic sight, as all the while my old little guy was doing his best to climb on top of both of us.

It is good to remember that the Lord too will never push us away: He loves us too much. His love is unconditional, not based on our goodness but on His. No matter how much His arms ached on the cross, he would not put them down. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, let Him carry you on His shoulders through the rough places in your life and guide you by the still waters to life eternal with Him.
